Ella is an Australian trained physiotherapist with Bachelor and Masters qualifications at the University of South Australia, and a PhD from the University of Hong Kong. Prior to setting up Aurora Physiotherapy, Ella was Professor in Physiotherapy at the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

 

Ella's area of expertise is in the field of orthopaedics and sports physiotherapy. She has a particular interest in treating sporting injuries of the knee, shoulder, hip including rehabilitation post surgery. She loves the challenge of working on persistent complex conditions that have previously been unsuccessful in achieving resolution. Ella believes that the best treatment outcome is achieved when clients take an active approach towards recovery. Her treatment is hands-on and movement focused, with a strong emphasis on functional exercise rehabilitation.

Ella has worked extensively with elite national athletes for their sports injuries and ongoing pain related problems. She was the Team Physio to the China Women’s Hockey Team at the Beijing 2008 Olympics and Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games. Ella was appointed to the Sports Medicine Specialist team of the China Olympic Team for London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympics. She has worked with many team and individual sports including - field hockey, handball, volleyball, race walking, fencing, marathon, shotput and rowing. In Hong Kong, Ella has been the Physiotherapy Coordinator for the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon since 2008. She is the Head Physio for the USRC Tigers Rugby Football Club. 

 

Ella is recognized as a leading clinician, researcher and educator in Physiotherapy. She has published over 100 research papers and been speaker at international conferences. Her work has been published in journals such as British Journal of Sports Medicine, Journal of Physiology. She now serves as Adjunct Professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where she contributes to teaching and research. 

 

Ella accepts instructions for medico-legal reports as expert witness involving musculoskeletal disorders or injuries.
